I took one of my old posts from another board to see what you guys think about this. It was a long time ago and I know a lot of you have not seen the topic. I would like to see if anyone has any new insight.
Something has always bothered me about this story. If Gert was gonna dump Sylvia here, was she gonna kill her first? This does not make sense to me, because Jenny and Johnny could not carry a dead Sylvia to a lot. If she was going to leave her alive and dump her there, Jenny would seem like a bad choice to do this. Jenny would have a better chance over-powering Johnny or getting help with him rather than Paula. What about being dumped in Jimmy Forest made Sylvia try to run out the door? This was her only escape attempt. Something about this does not add up. It would seem if she had the energy to run, she would be able to do it better on the way to the forest.
We are missing a lot of details for this situation.

I have wondered about that myself. Then I read something that surprised me. I think that when someone has the will to do something, they do it. I once read about a man who wasn't a body builder or anything. The man saw a car run over a child and he ran over to the car and lifted it up to save the child. He didn't lift it up over his head or anything, he just lifted the part that the child was under. The man never did anything like that before. He was able to muster up the will to do that and I think that's very courageous. Sometimes people can do very unexpected things that make your jaw drop. I read about that online and I haven't forgotten it.

The story is in this link http://www.foxnews.com/story/2009/12/19/kansas-girl-says-superman-hero-lifted-car-off-her/

Personally, this part of the whole case is what is the most chilling.
This is another piece of evidence that the murder of Sylvia Likens was premeditated.
But I might be wrong on this opinion. But the only reason why Sylvia was going to be dumped in the woods was to make it look like a gang of boys had beaten her. This was in order for the Ban clan to wipe their hands clean of any wrongdoing, or murder if Sylvia were to die, which she did. I think Gert knew this, and didn't want to be suspected. They wanted to act like Sylvia had just run off. So rather than find Sylvia's body in the house, they rather have her either never found at all, or found dumped off in the woods.

Killers do this so that the victim will not be found. It's the most sickening aspect of murder there is. All too often these days we find out that some missing persons were actually killed, and their bodies are usually found in fields or wooded areas. This is why police searching for missing persons use cadaver dogs to sniff out the bodies if they suspect the individual is dead. But, you have to have clear evidence that there was a murder. It's the worst thing for a murderer to do, because then that leaves the family no way of closure. Take the recent murder of 10 year old Jessica Ridgeway. Her killer disposed of her body in hopes that she would never be found, so he wouldn't be charged with the crime. Jessica's family was frantically searching for her. They would never have known what really happened if Jessica's body had not been found. I look at posters of missing children and women, and I wonder what might have really happened to them. Everyone needs answers, and I'm glad in this case the evidence was all there in plain sight.

I think Sylvia tried to run when she heard about the Jimmy Forest plan, because she must have known that was her death sentence. She didn't want to never be found, or never get help. If I were Sylvia, I would have done the same thing, because there's no way I would go out without a proper burial, or without leaving evidence as to who was responsible. But I think even if Sylvia had been dumped as the Bans planned, Jenny would have told everything. What scares me, is what would have happened to Jenny if the plan went through. Which makes me also wonder if they might have threatened Jenny if she told.

I just think that it would have been smarter for her to wait to go to Jimmy forest and then escape if she was not going to be killed first. It cold have just been that she finally realized, at that moment, that they planned for her to die.

I think that would've been a good idea too. If they left her to die, then if she wasn't too weak, she could somehow get somewhere to tell someone what's been happening. Maybe she could've gone to the police if she knew where the Police Station was located. However, I don't think she thought about that. I think she just thought about escaping before something else happened to her.

I don't think she planned to kill Sylvia before sending her to the woods. I agree that Gertrude wanted her to be found there if she had to be found, and as weak as Sylvia was she most likely expected her to die before she could get help or be found.

I think that's exactly what happened and she panicked. I don't think that poor Sylvia was in a clear frame of mind at all and wasn't capable of making an informed decision or she would have waited until she was out of the house and her sister and Johnny were the only ones around. Sadly, her rush of terror in that moment must have overwhelmed her and she finally attempted to escape... Sad
